What You’ll Do

As an Instrumentation & Control Technician, you’ll help maintain the systems behind some of our community’s most essential services. Your work will include:

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems throughout water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, distribution and collection systems, chlorine injection stations, and other Utilities facilities.
• Test and calibrate precision instrumentation used to monitor and control flow, level, pressure, temperature, analytical measurements, and other critical processes.
• Install, modify, and upgrade electronic instruments, automated controls, computer control systems, and system interfaces.
• Diagnose equipment and system issues, determine appropriate repairs or replacements, and help identify opportunities to modernize aging or obsolete instrumentation.
• Design, fabricate, program, commission, and document complex control system upgrades and participate in special technical projects.
• Work alongside mechanics on the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, wiring systems, and fixtures.
• Read, prepare, and interpret drawings, sketches, schematics, records, and technical reports.
• Monitor system performance, recognize unusual operating conditions, troubleshoot problems, and take appropriate corrective action.
• Maintain accurate records of instrumentation installation, calibration, testing, maintenance, and repairs.
• Participate in scheduled on-call and emergency response programs to help ensure essential Utilities services remain operational when our community needs them most.

Education and Experience:

An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical training in electronics, instrumentation, and controls. 
• Two (2) years of experience in the repair, inspection, adjustment, and calibration of electronic controls and instrumentation. 

Licenses and/or Certificates:

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.  Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work typically requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors or dust).

The position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.).
