Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, tire service, tune-ups)
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
- Replace and overhaul parts including engines, brakes, and transmissions
- Maintain accurate service records and manage parts/supplies
- Inspect fuel systems and support equipment readiness
- Prepare vehicles for auction and coordinate detailing
- Operate tools, equipment, and County vehicles safely
- Provide on-call support and deliver excellent customer service
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of experience in performing preventative maintenance and routine mechanical repairs on vehicles and equipment.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Preferred:
- Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of a wide variety of maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of internal combustion gasoline and diesel engines and chassis parts.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, compresses air, vacuum and electrical controls, systems, and components.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skill in the proper use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to evaluate the mechanical condition and performance of vehicles and related equipment before and after repair work.
- Ability to detect and locate improper operating practices and malfunctions in mechanical equipment and recommend effective solutions.
- Ability to interpret and work from electrical schematic sketches and repair diagrams.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to maintain records of mechanical maintenance activities.
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Ability to act as lead worker, when appropriate, with a team of subordinates and/or peers.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work typically requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors, or dust).
