About Us
The City and County of Denver is seeking an accomplished individual with program management and urban planning to join a team of highly motivated long-range planners. You will oversee functional areas and plan processes as well as take the lead on major planning efforts. You will have the opportunity to lead as well as participate on interdisciplinary teams on a variety of stimulating and complex land use and transportation initiatives. As part of the planning team, you will develop and contribute to City projects, plans, policies and practices with a long-range, comprehensive perspective.
About Our Job
Specifically, the Principal City Planner plays a leadership role in citywide planning efforts as well as in functional areas including neighborhood planning, corridor planning and transit oriented development. Upcoming citywide planning efforts include updating the Comprehensive Plan, Blueprint Denver and the TOD Strategic Plan. The Living Streets Initiative (a corridor strategic plan) and a Strategic Parking Plan are underway. The position includes fostering collaborative efforts with staff to ensure input and follow through. The position includes coordination with other CPD sections including Plan Implementation as well as with other city departments and regional entities. The Principal City Planner position is not a supervisory position.
About You
Requires a Master’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a directly related degree and three years of professional experience including coordinating complex planning/development projects and applying policy with demonstrated experience in land use, transportation, and community planning in an urban planning environment.
Additional experience as stated in the qualifications will substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis (6 years of additional experience).
