Position Overview

We’re hiring a Used Car Buyer to acquire and manage pre-owned inventory that aligns with market demand, pricing strategy, and profitability goals. This role is responsible for sourcing vehicles, evaluating trades, managing wholesale activity, and partnering with recon and sales leadership to maintain a strong, retail-ready used car operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Source pre-owned inventory through auctions, direct buys, and other acquisition channels
• Appraise trade-ins accurately and consistently; support desk with trade strategy and deal structure
• Analyze market data to guide acquisition decisions, pricing strategy, and inventory mix
• Manage wholesale disposition strategy for non-retail units; track performance and minimize losses
• Monitor inventory turn, aging, and gross performance; take action to move aged units
• Partner with recon/service to set recon standards, control costs, and shorten cycle time
• Ensure accurate inventory records, titles/stocking documentation coordination, and clean processes
• Build and maintain relationships with auction reps, wholesalers, and local acquisition partners
• Provide regular reporting to management on inventory performance, sourcing results, and opportunities

Qualifications

• 3 years of used vehicle buying experience in a dealership environment strongly preferred
• Proven ability to source inventory profitably and maintain strong turn and market alignment
• Strong appraisal skills and understanding of recon cost, ACV, and retail pricing strategy
• Comfort with market tools, auction platforms, and inventory performance reporting
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to move quickly with disciplined decision-making
• High integrity, strong attention to detail, and a process-driven mindset
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
