What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Manager - Winery/Brewery/Restaurant position at Charleston Taylor?
Black Chapel Brewing is a craft brewery and restaurant rooted in the Texas Hill Country, where great beer meets a pizza kitchen and winery. We're looking for a hands-on, hospitality-driven leader who isn't afraid to get their hands in dough, pull a pint, or close down the floor — often all in the same shift.
This is not a desk job. Our Assistant Manager is a working leader who anchors the daily operation across kitchen, bar, and front of house. You will also receive cross-training at our sister property, Charleston Taylor Estate winery, giving you experience across both the brewing and winemaking worlds.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Work directly in our pizza kitchen — prepping, building pies, managing ticket flow, and maintaining food quality and consistency
- Tend bar with confidence — draft beer, wine service, and guiding guests through our tap list and releases
- Manage floor operations including opening and closing procedures, staffing the shift, and keeping service running smoothly
- Support and supervise hourly staff across kitchen and front-of-house, providing real-time coaching and accountability
- Assist in scheduling, ordering, and inventory management
- Cross-train at Charleston Taylor Estate winery for wine service, tasting room operations, and event support
- Handle guest interactions with warmth and professionalism — resolve complaints, build regulars, represent the brand
- Step in wherever the team needs you — this role demands flexibility, grit, and genuine love for hospitality
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 2 years of restaurant, brewery, or hospitality management experience
- Real, working knowledge of a kitchen environment — you can hold your own on the line, not just supervise it
- Genuine bar fluency — draft systems, wine and beer pairing conversations
- A track record of leading hourly teams with patience, clarity, and follow-through
- TABC certification or willingness to obtain prior to start date
- Texas Food Handler's certification or willingness to obtain
- Comfort with POS systems, cash handling, and end-of-day reporting
- Weekend and evening availability required
- Ego-free work ethic — you'll bus tables, wash dishes, and mop floors alongside your team
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Competitive commensurate with experience
- Meals and beer perks during shifts
- Cross-training across both craft brewing and winemaking operations
- Growth path toward General Manager for the right candidate
