What are the responsibilities and job description for the Echo Tech (per diem) position at CHARLES RIVER MEDICAL ASSOCIATES?
This is a per diem for a Registered Cardiac Sonographer/Echo Tech. Our main facility is in Framingham, and we operate a satellite in Marlborough. Weekdays first shift.
- Perform comprehensive and high-quality echocardiogram
- Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to work with ultrasound transducer and delicate panels on equipment.
- Must have a good understanding of equipment function, which is important, because technology is changing very rapidly.
- Must have the ability to interact with understanding with patients and staff for smooth lab flow and genuine cooperation.
- Flexibility is essential here. Technicians also interact with physicians for the purpose of information.
- Must have the ability to distinguish the exact spectrum of color necessary to perform color flow Doppler’s.

Must have a high level of analytical ability to perform complex color Doppler testing, which requires a professional level of knowledge to
interpret and analyze test results, - Must possess visual acuity to distinguish gradations of color and closely examine the significance of all cardiac structures to produce a diagnostic scan of the heart.
- Must have the ability of producing an initial interpretation to the referring physicians.
- Must possess a high degree of technical expertise with the knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamics.
- Obtain the necessary and accurate measurements and write preliminary report in a timely manner.
- Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure all appropriate imaging technique will be obtained.
- Apply independent judgment during the echocardiography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. As necessary, acquire additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimal diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
- Be able to effectively handle emergency situations.
- Maintain all ultrasound equipment, trouble-shoot minor operating problems and report all malfunctions to appropriate service provider.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the echocardiography examination.
- Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
- Computer skills are essential and include but are not limited to, lab operating systems, database use, echocardiographic lab reporting software, image archiving and standard office management systems (email, word processing, etc.)
- Be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Be able to assist patients with limited mobility.

Job Requirement
- Current licensure as a registered cardiac sonographer
- Minimum of associate degree (or equivalent program w/ Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate) with ARDCS or CCI credential.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in echocardiography field
- A thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamics is required.
