Join our dynamic team as a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A Truck Driver and take charge of delivering freight across various routes with precision and professionalism. In this role, you will operate tractor with dump trailer Primarily, with potential to run low bed and dump truck. While based in Rome NY, you will be home at night and weekends, majority of work is local to central New York. Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper cargo securing for safe transport.
- Transport various types of freight, including, lowbed loads, and specialty cargo like excavator, bulldozer, skid steer, roller, backhoe or dump truck materials.
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimized routes while maintaining flexibility for route adjustments based on traffic or delivery requirements.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure compliance with safety standards; report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Deliver freight efficiently while providing excellent customer service at each stop; verify delivery documentation and obtain signatures when required.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery records in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
Requirements
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers with manual transmission preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially in delivery driving and route driving across diverse terrains.
- Ability to handle manual loading/unloading tasks safely; experience with heavy equipment operation is a plus.
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling for various freight types including low bed, dump trailer and dump trucks.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) safety standards.
- Excellent navigation skills using GPS systems; ability to plan efficient routes for timely deliveries over long distances (OTR).
