What are the responsibilities and job description for the Literacy Coach position at CHAR-EM ISD?
POSITION:
Literacy Coach
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education; Master’s in Reading preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years, successful teaching experience, preferably in a K-5 setting
- Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with one or more of the following endorsements:
-Reading Specialist (BR) -English (BA)
-Reading (BT) -Early Childhood (ZA)
- Language Arts (BX)
- Successful experience coaching adult learners
- Knowledge of evidence based literacy practices
- Previous experience training or presenting information to educators
- Ability to breakdown and analyze data in relation to the MTSS process and instructional decision making
- Experience with a range of benchmarking and screening assessments in the area of literacy
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in all required coach professional development. The coach is charged with
acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional strategies necessary to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached.
- Maintain knowledge regarding current and past research in literacy and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role.
- Develop deep content and pedagogical knowledge in the evidence-based learner-centered approach to instruction.
- Analyze relevant data with teachers to identify teaching and learning needs, barriers, and weaknesses and develop problem-solving actions.
- Facilitate school-based professional development, working with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills. Professional development could include, but not be limited to: in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, building teacher capacity around: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing.
- Work collaboratively with LEAs to improve literacy instruction currently being utilized in classrooms.
