What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Technology position at CHAR-EM ISD?
- Bachelor's Degree in related field, with graduate course work or advanced technical training preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years related experience in a technical environment
- A minimum of three (3) years of proven leadership experience in an educational and/or technical environment.
- Documented/demonstrated current knowledge of computers, peripheral equipment, database management, networking, cybersecurity, word processing, spreadsheets and open systems technology required.
- Demonstrate strong presentation and facilitation skills by communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Leads, supports, and supervises Technology Services department staff and contractors; and assigns them to identified work tasks appropriate to skill level.
- Leads the development and directs the implementation of strategic and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems for department services that align with the purpose and plans of the organization.
- Maintains a strong cybersecurity stance for Char-Em ISD and all of our consortium partners.
- Consults with and serves as an information source for Char-Em ISD and constituent school districts’ staff on media and instructional technology practices, materials, equipment uses, and acquisitions.
- Develops, recommends, and oversees the implementation and evaluation of district-wide policies, standards, practices, and security measures to assure the integrity and reliability of computerized information and communications systems.
- Serves as a core stakeholder in the review and selection of virtual assessment platforms.
- Evaluates assessments on content, ease of use, data privacy, and potential technical friction points for students and staff.
- Directs or personally conducts specification, negotiations, bidding and related processes for the acquisition, lease, installation, modification, and operation of district information systems projects, equipment, and services.
- Directs the distribution of work to personnel identified in the IT Support ticket system.
- Resolves issues through the customer service management system.
- Evaluates staff training and development needs and oversees the development and delivery of learning opportunities and experiences which will enable staff to maintain and enhance technical skills and capacities to serve.
- Leads multiple projects and supports/motivates effective teamwork to produce quality goods and services.
- Able to translate complex technical requirements into plain language for educators, administrators, and board members.
- Represents the District at the state and local levels on matters related to Media and Technology Services.
- Serves as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies to provide better understanding and sharing of programs, services and resources.
- Annually coordinates the Erate purchasing process for Char-Em ISD and the local districts participating in our Technology Services consortium.
- Maintains and applies up-to-date knowledge of rules and regulations associated with federal and state programs including: FCC, federal and state reporting mandates for business and student data management systems, federal and state technology funding and state procurement laws.
- Keeps informed about all types of information resources, both instructional and management-oriented, in all media formats and remains up-to-date on trends and developments regarding their use.
- Manage the department budget(s) and collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to prepare a budget.
- Supervise department operations, services, and support in compliance with all Board policies, State and Federal regulations, and reporting requirements (such as HIPAA and FERPA).
- Perform appropriate human resource functions necessary for hiring, coaching, supervising, and evaluating staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
