Communications Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, or journalism.
- Five or more years of related experience in communications, journalism, or public relations. Prior copy editor experience and background in crisis communications
- Ability to write in the AP writing style or within Chicago Manual of Style writing guidelines. Graphic design experience across a wide variety of project scopes and knowledge of best practices.
- Established record of accomplishment in securing press coverage.
- Proven ability to write, source and photograph content for brochures, print, broadcast and social media, and for the web.
- Exceptional writing, proofreading, and content editing skills.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for all ISD printed and digital materials, such as media releases, newsletters, brochures/flyers and pamphlets.
- Create content for and regularly update Char-Em ISD website(s) (including Career Tech website).
- Create content for and regularly update Char-Em ISD social media sites.
- Responsible for taking photographs of ISD events for social media, website, and printed content.
- Maintain ongoing media relations including an up-to-date list of media organizations, contact with media members, coordinating media inquiries, requests for interviews, news conferences and the proactive release of information via news release.
- Responsible for conceptualizing and executing communication projects.
- Create and approve compelling content for the ISD’s print and electronic communication materials.
- Maintain a unified and consistent organization image in all internal and external communications.
- Responsible for the production of the In the Know internal monthly newsletter and other newsletters assisting staff (Professional Learning, Special Education, summer camps, others).
- Create presentations and draft executive speeches, as requested.
- Manage all community relations events and activities.
- Provide assistance and guidance to local school districts on public relations and communication issues, including crisis communications.
- Provide guidance and oversight on all internal and external graphic design communications and marketing materials.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent

CONTRACT LENGTH: 220 days each school year, year round
COMPENSATION: Based on experience and non-union professional staff schedule
