ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


Summary/Objective:


The Southern Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the execution, delivery and coordination of all aggregates and cement. This includes the management of dispatchers, drivers, supervisors and scale house personnel. The Bulk Logistics Manager will work closely with the Director of Terminals & Transit to implement operational strategies and objectives to ensure efficient customer service. 


Essential Functions:


  • Coordinate delivery processes, haul routes, times of day, truck loops and truck efficiency to optimize profitability.

  • Ensure all partners in the supply chain are working effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operations.

  • Analyze all aspects of corporate logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies.

  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with overall business processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting and safety.

  • Work with Aggregates Dispatch and Customer service supervisors to analyze workflows and adjust accordingly with a focus on process improvement.

  • Form and maintain outside relationships with alternative hauls (glass, metal, lime), larger independent groups and MBE haulers. Work to find backhauls that fit each other’s needs.

  • Implement iPad and new application technology. Investigate and identify new software. Make suggestions for improvements with existing software and technology.

  • Understand market demands, rates and customer needs.

  • Attend association events and participate in public relations with organizations, and business contacts related to the industry (trucking, & logistics) as necessary.

  • Cross selling opportunities must always be top of mind.

  • Oversee the Sand & Gravel Dispatchers and Weighmasters ensuring that all dispatching, order-taking and scale house procedures are followed. 

  • Hire, train, develop and motivate employees toward accomplishing company goals and objectives; perform performance appraisals as required; and keep personnel records accurate and current. 

  • Provide advice and assistance to staff as needed and respond to all their complaints, concerns and suggestions in a timely manner. Coach staff and implement effective problem solving and other improvement techniques using both internal and external resources as needed. 

  • Cross train staff to provide continuous top-quality service. Monitor employee training and development and ensure that all training is provided in a timely and cost-effective manner. 

  • Recruit, evaluate and select independent contractors (cement haulers) for hire as designated by business and delivery needs. Monitor and maintain cement hauler records.

  • Support and enforce all company safety programs. Cooperate with the company Safety Manager and continually ensure that all company operations and activities are performed in a consistently safe manner.

  • Adhere to all Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations and ensure that all company operations are in compliance with all related state and federal regulations.

  • Cooperate with the Human Resources Department in the implementation of all company policies and procedures.

  • Strengthen and maintain a high morale and team concept throughout the company through implementation and utilization of sound leadership and management principles, in addition to promoting and employing total quality principles to achieve a more efficient and quality workplace. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Non-Essential Functions:


  • Volunteer and participate in company events.

    Work Environment:



    • Work time will be indoors/office.

    • Noise level will be moderate.


    Physical Demands:



    • Sit approximately 8 hours per day.

    • Work extended days and hours as needed (50-60 hrs/week).

    • Must be able to transport oneself as some local/regional travel will be required.


    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS


    Experience:



    • Previous experience in a logistics or dispatch environment (5 years minimum).

    • Previous supervisory experience (5 years minimum).


    Special Skills:



    • Written communication, verbal communication and basic mathematical skills.

    • Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.

    • Ability to learn/use the company dispatching system.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

    • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

    • Ability to conduct advanced statistics.

    • Must have proven effective leadership, training and motivation skills.

    • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to see the big picture.

    • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. 



    • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully. 


    Certifications:



    • Valid Driver’s License.



    • CPR/First Aid.


    Industry Related Experience or Skills:



    • Background in aggregates/sand and gravel or transportation (preferred).


    Education Required: 4-year degree or equivalent work experience


    Preferred Education: College/Undergrad


    Bilingual in Spanish Preferred: Yes

    Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
