Performance Pay:  

Available annually  

New Hire Experience:  

1% for two or more years of full time like experience and an additional 1% per year not to exceed the maximum hiring range of 5%.

1% of hourly rate for a college degree in a similar field, combined with work experience credit not to exceed the maximum hiring range of 5%.

JOB TITLE: JOURNEYMAN HVAC (LOW TEMP) TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SUPPORT SERVICES             

CALENDAR: 2612H (12 MONTHS)

SALARY: GRADE 120 (SUPPORT HOURLY)

 

Effective July 1, 2006, a post-offer physical and drug screening test is required for this position.  

 

Job Goal:                       

Journeymen Technicians install, repair, and maintain specialized low-temperature cooling systems. Responsibilities include ensuring 24/7 reliability of critical refrigeration equipment in kitchens, industrial food processing, and school district facilities. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license. 
  • Ability to read and write English as it pertains to job function. 
  • 1 or more years’ experience in HVAC low temp Systems 
  • Knowledge of installation, repair, overhaul, and preventative maintenance of critical refrigeration equipment 
  • Ability to read blueprints. 
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment. 
  • Ability to operate Lifts vary from?building elevators (hydraulic, traction for passengers/goods) to construction aerial work platforms (scissor, boom, mast) and specialized lifts for specific tasks 
  • Must possess a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance card prior to starting in position 
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in K–12 or public-sector environments 
  • HVAC Industry certification in commercial refrigeration or related fields, EPA Certification (Type II) or universal 

Core Job functions:

  • Specialize in installing, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining critical low-temp refrigeration equipment. 
  • Serve diverse environments including Kitchens, industrial plants, and all school buildings. 
  • Ensure systems operate safely and efficiently to maintain precise temperature and air quality.? 
  • Set up refrigeration systems, piping, cases, and electrical wiring according to codes and specs. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues. 
  • Conduct refrigerant leak checks, perform repairs, and monitor refrigerant usage. 
  • Manage systems to meet EPA, OSHA, and local regulatory standards. 
  • Maintain accurate service records and manage system documentation. 
  • Provide construction support and respond to emergency service calls day and night.? 
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. 
  • Ability to read blueprints, use specialized tools, braze, and weld. 
  • Experience with system controls and computer-based monitoring. 
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or with a team.? 
  • Journey-Level Certification and completion of a formal apprenticeship. 
  • EPA Certification (Type II or Universal) and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. 
  • Proven background in commercial refrigeration or a related mechanical field.? 
  • Operate in diverse settings ranging from retail spaces and offices to industrial facilities. 
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions, including high elevations or enclosed/confined spaces.? 
  • Any other duties assigned

  • Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and construction environments
