Job Summary


The Community Service Assistant is a member of the Service-Learning & Civic Engagement team. In this role, you’ll help connect students with meaningful service opportunities while supporting community partnerships and campus engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with community partners to support their volunteer and program needs.
  • Assisting with the planning and preparation of service projects, events, and other engagement opportunities
  • Representing the office at campus tables and events to promote upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Helping students identify service opportunities and navigate the process of submitting their service impacts.
  • Delivering engaging classroom presentations about service-learning, civic engagement, and ways to get involved.
  • Supporting additional projects and programs as needed.

Essential Functions


  • Inspire and encourage fellow students to participate in service projects, volunteer opportunities, and campus events.
  • Welcome and assist students, creating a positive and inclusive experience.
  • Help plan and support event logistics, including set-up, event facilitation, and clean-up.
  • Represent the Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Office while volunteering alongside students at community service events.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Chandler-Gilbert Community College and our community partners.
  • Assist with data entry, record keeping, and tracking volunteer participation.
  • Complete general office tasks, including organizing materials, filing, and preparing resources.
  • Attend meetings with community partners and campus departments as needed.
  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements


In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.
