Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
Job Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for administering prescribed medications to residents or patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN or LPN). The CMA also assists with daily living activities, monitors patients for medication side effects, maintains accurate documentation, and provides compassionate, quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications according to physician orders and facility policies.
- Accurately document medication administration and maintain medication records.
- Observe patients for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, or changes in condition and report concerns to the licensed nurse.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating, as needed.
- Measure and record vital signs when required.
- Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning of residents.
- Ensure medication carts and supplies are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow infection control, safety, and medication administration protocols.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Respond promptly to resident needs and emergency situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (if required by state).
- Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification.
- CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required by employer).
- Knowledge of medication administration procedures and safety practices.
- Ability to lift and assist residents safely.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
