Shelburne Community School (SCS) is seeking a dynamic, part-time Drama/Musical Director to lead our Middle School Musical Program for the 2026–2027 school year. We are looking for an individual who can foster a creative, collaborative, and supportive environment while helping student-performers develop their theatrical talents both on and off the stage. The Director will work closely with the current Artistic Team to bring our next middle school production to life.

This is a part-time, co-curricular Category A stipend position. Rehearsals are traditionally scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday afternoons from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM, extending until 5:00 PM during tech week (the week before the show). Attendance at production team meetings prior to auditions, as well as evening and weekend performances during the run of the production, is required. Exact production dates will be collaboratively determined by the directorial and administrative team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall staging, vision, and execution of the middle school musical production.
  • Oversee and run production meetings and organize the rehearsal schedule for the cast.
  • Coordinate rehearsals for the chorus, soloists, and dancers from initial auditions through final performances.
  • Collaborate directly with the Music Director and Choreographer to ensure creative continuity and alignment with program goals.
  • Manage and assist with communication to families regarding student involvement and volunteer opportunities for props, costumes, and miscellaneous production needs.
  • Ensure all safety and educational protocols are followed to support student well-being and achievement.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Demonstrated experience in theater production and stage direction; experience working with middle school-aged youth is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with an ability to coordinate a multi-faceted artistic team.
  • Proven ability to motivate young performers, build a cohesive ensemble, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.
  • Exceptional dependability, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit.
  • A deep commitment to inclusivity, helping to develop an environment that represents, welcomes, and celebrates all students and families.

Please apply via SchoolSpring to Brett Cluff, SCS Principal, with a letter of interest and resume.

This is a part-time stipend position based on qualifications and experience. The position is a "category A activity" on our co-curricular contract and the compensation is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. More information about CVSD can be found on our district website.
