Position: Financial Controller

Location: Greater Houston Texas

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Duration & Type: Full-Time, Monday – Friday; Onsite (5 days per week)

Chamberlain Advisors has been retained to conduct a confidential search for a Financial Controller on behalf of their client located in the Greater Houston area. This position will serve as the senior internal finance leader, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple operating entities within a growing organization. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical expertise, particularly within product-based organizations, who enjoys building scalable processes and improving financial operations. This role will oversee core accounting functions, internal payroll processes, financial reporting, and system improvements while helping the organization transition to a more robust ERP environment. This opportunity is best suited for a detail-oriented Controller who takes pride in running a disciplined accounting operation and enjoys improving systems, processes, and reporting structures within a growing company.

Experience with systems that manage inventory at a high level of detail is essential.
  • Tech-Savvy Financial Expertise – A data-driven financial leader with deep proficiency in financial systems, ERP platforms, and analytics tools to enhance budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. Skilled in leveraging automation, dashboards, and advanced Excel or BI tools to drive efficiency and improve decision-making. Experienced in integrating new technologies to optimize financial modeling, scenario planning, and cross-functional collaboration. What You Will Be Accountable For Accomplishing

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee accounting operations across multiple legal entities, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll oversight, and general ledger management.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, with a focus on improving close cycle efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of financial statements and consolidated financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with GAAP.
  • Coordinate with external accounting advisors when necessary.

Payroll, Compliance & Regulatory Filings

  • Oversee internal payroll operations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accurate payroll tax reporting and filings.
  • Oversee regulatory filings and payments including tax-related obligations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments to government agencies and other required entities.

Manufacturing Cost Accounting & Inventory

  • Lead cost accounting and inventory accounting processes within a production-driven organization.
  • Maintain accurate tracking and valuation of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Support financial visibility into production costs and operational performance.
  • Monitor inventory valuation and cost structures to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Cash Flow & Financial Operations

  • Assist with cash flow monitoring and short-term forecasting.
  • Support leadership with financial insights and operational reporting.
  • Ensure accurate financial data supports operational decision-making.

ERP Implementation & Financial Systems

  • Support the company’s planned transition from its current accounting platform to a mid-market ERP system.
  • Participate in system implementation and configuration to support manufacturing and inventory workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting automation and reduce manual processes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve system utilization and financial data visibility.

Process Improvement & Financial Infrastructure

  • Identify inefficiencies within financial workflows and implement improvements.
  • Reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets through improved system reporting and automation.
  • Implement standardized financial processes and reporting structures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on accounting or operational discrepancies and implement solutions.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and oversight for a small accounting team responsible for transactional processes.
  • Foster accountability, accuracy, and process discipline within the finance function.
  • Work closely with leadership and operational teams to ensure financial information supports business decisions.
  • Participate in regular leadership team discussions related to operational and financial performance.

What Qualifications You Will Need

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.

Experience

  • 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience in an inventory-based organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing accounting functions across multiple entities.
  • Prior experience overseeing accounting teams and financial processes.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with ERP systems or mid-market accounting platforms.
  • Experience with ERP implementations or system migrations strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.

Systems & Technology

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Experience leveraging technology to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Interest in modern financial tools, automation, and process optimization.
