General Overview

The Porter will be responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the restaurant, ensuring that all areas meet Chama Mama’s high standards. The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking, and able to support both the kitchen and front-of-house teams by creating a clean and safe environment for staff and guests alike.

General Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all areas, including kitchen, dining room, restrooms, and storage areas.
• Support the kitchen team by washing dishes, pots, and pans and ensuring they are sanitized and properly stored.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling in a timely and sanitary manner.
• Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries, storing products safely and neatly.
• Ensure proper use and care of cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Monitor cleaning supplies and inform the Kitchen Manager or General Manager when stock is low.
• Perform routine deep cleaning tasks as assigned (e.g., floors, walls, equipment, walk-in refrigerators).
• Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines in accordance with Department of Health standards.
• Uphold Chama Mama’s standards of cleanliness to ensure a welcoming environment for both guests and staff.
• Assist in other duties as requested by managers to support restaurant operations.
  
  

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a porter, dishwasher, or cleaner in a restaurant or hospitality environment preferred.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitation methods.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including boxes and equipment.
• Ability to bend, reach, and move frequently throughout the shift.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
