Challenge Alaska Facilities and Equipment Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Classification: Full-Time, Year-Round, Exempt
Salary: $60,000 - $70.000 / year (DOE)
Location: Anchorage and Girdwood, Alaska
Position Summary
The Facilities and Equipment Manager is responsible for the overall operations, maintenance, organization, and safety of Challenge Alaska's facilities, vehicle fleet, and adaptive recreation equipment across all program locations. This position ensures that all buildings, grounds, vehicles, and adaptive sports equipment are maintained in safe, reliable, and mission-ready condition to support year-round adaptive recreation programming.
The Facilities and Equipment Manager oversees preventive maintenance and operational systems for both Anchorage and Girdwood locations, coordinates contracted services including snow removal and janitorial support, manages adaptive equipment inventories and maintenance schedules, and supports adaptive sports programming through equipment setup and logistical coordination for ski, snowboard, cycling, and other recreation programs.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in facilities management, equipment maintenance, fleet coordination, or related operational leadership
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Experience maintaining adaptive recreation, ski/snowboard, cycling, or outdoor recreation equipment preferred
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects across locations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working with people of all abilities
• Ability to supervise contractors, seasonal staff, and volunteers
• Knowledge of building systems and preventive maintenance practices
• Experience coordinating vendors and service contracts preferred
• Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and inventory management systems
• Ability to work independently and respond calmly to operational challenges
• Valid Alaska Driver License with clean driving record
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Essential Responsibilities
Facilities Operations and Maintenance
• Oversee operations and maintenance of all Challenge Alaska facilities in Anchorage and Girdwood
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, grounds, and infrastructure
• Coordinate and oversee contracted services including snow removal, janitorial services, HVAC and furnace maintenance, plumbing and electrical repairs, security and fire alarm systems, elevator and automatic door maintenance, and waste removal services
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and compliance
• Identify repair needs and coordinate corrective action in a timely manner
• Maintain organized maintenance records and vendor documentation
• Assist with facility rentals, scheduling, setup, and operational support
• Support emergency response and operational continuity during weather or facility-related incidents
Vehicle Fleet Management
• Manage Challenge Alaska vehicle fleet including vans, trucks, trailers, and other program vehicles
• Coordinate routine service, inspections, registration, tire changes, repairs, and preventive maintenance
• Maintain vehicle maintenance logs and ensure fleet readiness for programs and events
• Coordinate seasonal preparation and storage of vehicles and trailers
• Monitor vehicle cleanliness, safety, and operational condition
Adaptive Equipment Management
• Oversee inventory, maintenance, repair, organization, and storage of all adaptive sports equipment
• Ensure adaptive ski, snowboard, cycling, and recreation equipment is safe, functional, and properly fitted
• Coordinate equipment setup for lessons, clinics, events, and participant needs
• Maintain equipment maintenance schedules and inspection records
• Assist with equipment purchasing recommendations and inventory planning
• Coordinate seasonal transitions and storage of adaptive equipment
• Maintain workshop organization and operational efficiency
Program Support
• Support adaptive recreation programs through equipment logistics and operational coordination
• Assist instructors and volunteers with equipment fitting and setup for lessons
• Provide on-site operational support during programs and events as needed
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers or seasonal staff assisting with facilities or equipment operations
• Attend staff meetings and collaborate across departments to support program success
• Assist with special events and fundraising activities as assigned
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift, move, and transport equipment up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and perform physical maintenance tasks
• Ability to safely operate tools, vehicles, trailers, and maintenance equipment
Work Schedule
This position may require evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable seasonal hours based on program and facility needs. Winter operations may include early morning snow response and weekend program support.

Salary Range
$60,000 – $70,000 / year DOE
