Chadwick School is looking for an energizing, enthusiastic individual with previous experience and deep understanding of elementary school Spanish and interest in student-centered and experiential instructional practices and backward design curriculum planning. 

 

The Chadwick Village School has two classes of approximately 20 students at each grade level in kindergarten through fifth grade. This Spanish teacher will be the Village Spanish specialist, teaching each class in grades K-5. The Village Spanish teacher is responsible for creating joy and enthusiasm around learning a global language and exploring culture and for exposure of foundational skills and knowledge in alignment with a K-12 Spanish sequence.

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be on campus from 7:45 am until 3:45 pm on days when school is in session.
  • Teach K-5 Spanish.
  • Design learning experiences around evidence-based language best practices in order to support a coherent backward-designed curriculum that aligns with the Village and global language program and scope and sequence.
  • Work with the global language department chair, Division Directors, Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning, and peers to strengthen pedagogy and curriculum and take advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Model the Chadwick Core Values and help provide a joyful, inclusive school experience within and beyond the classroom.
  • Use a whole-child approach that builds classroom community and creates an environment that remains responsive to the strengths and needs of all students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to proactively reflect on and participate in discussions around identity, race, and issues of social justice.
  • Participate in multiple Village faculty duties, such as student supervision during recess, lunch, and dismissal, and Village community events.
  • Communicate with parents in a timely manner, including report cards and narrative comments twice a year.
  • Collaborate with learning specialist and school counselors on academic, social, or emotional issues.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings, relevant student support meetings, new faculty programming, and professional development days.
  • Assist with back to school events, open house, field trips, overnight trips, and concerts when relevant.
  • Read and follow employment policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Read and follow academic policies outlined in the relevant division Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of teaching experience, with experience teaching diverse elementary-age levels and abilities.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of the Spanish language, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, along with cultural competency.
  • Understanding of and interest in the developmental nuances of elementary school-aged children.
  • Interest in and knowledge of foundational global language content and standards, such as ACTFL.

Compensation: $81,000 to $98,000 salary based on years of experience, credentials and other qualifications.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
  • Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
  • May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
  • Required to sit while operating word processing equipment up to several hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
