Salary: $2,075.12/CAH - $2,322.27/CAH

Job Summary 

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Umoja Counselor/Coordinator to provide Counseling and to support the coordination of the Umoja learning community for Las Positas College.  

 

Applicants will be expected to provide comprehensive academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling, as well as assist in the support and success of the college's Black/African American students within the Umoja learning community. The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations; the candidate also will show an understanding of how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices. This candidate is also expected to support with program coordination and implementation of co-curricular components of Umoja, including porch talks, field trips, and other related academic and personal development workshops.

 

 Duties and Responsibilities:  

1. Provide counseling to students, which includes the development of student educational plans based on certificate, associate degree, transfer, and career goals;

2. Provide holistic academic, career, transfer and personal counseling, and referrals to appropriate resources;

3. Organize student Dashboard by pathway and disaggregated demographics;

4. Complete campus climate survey to provide insight into elevating care, confidence, and student belonging;

5. Proactive support for Black and African American students throughout their academic journey;

6. Assists African American and other students in developing and achieving their immediate and long-range academic and occupational goals;

7. Teaches counseling courses, leads workshops, orientations, and seminars; assists in developing and implementing necessary Umoja learning community co-curricular activities, including field trips and outreach opportunities;

8. Collaborates with Umoja/BCRC Coordinator with Umoja learning community components per MOU requirements;

9. Academic programs use technology;

10. Ongoing campus training on tech platforms;

11. Program coordinators learn to use predictive scheduling;

12. Data dashboards created for key stakeholders.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:    

Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent.

 

(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

 

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:  

1. One (1) year of community college or higher education counseling experience;

2. Direct experience with counseling and supporting Black and/or African American and other students;

3.   Umoja trained preferred.
