Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer supports the analysis, evaluation, and engineering of turbine components within a regional energy technology organization. This role focuses on finite element modeling, thermal and structural analysis, and lifing assessments for turbine hardware. The engineer plays a key role in supporting root cause investigations, design reviews, and technical troubleshooting across global teams while ensuring compliance with export-controlled material requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Finite Element Modeling & Analysis
  • Build 2D and 3D finite element models for turbine components using classic ANSYS.
  • Perform thermal, structural, modal, and forced-response analyses under mechanical and thermal loading.
  • Conduct lifing evaluations including LCF, HCF, creep, oxidation, and fracture mechanics.
  • Post-process modal results, including generating frequency and Campbell diagrams.
  • Prepare technical presentations and findings for Design Reviews.
Engineering Design Review & Support
  • Review 2D and 3D models and provide feedback to engineering teams.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and perform tolerance stack-ups.
  • Utilize PLM/Teamcenter tools for configuration management and documentation.
  • Support global design efforts by coordinating with engineering, quality, and program teams.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Support or lead RCA activities for turbine hardware issues.
  • Provide analytical insights and support data-driven problem resolution.
  • Participate in cross-functional investigations to determine design, material, or operational contributors.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 4 years of engineering design experience in gas turbine engines.
  • Minimum 2 years of classic ANSYS experience focused on mechanical/thermal analysis.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using UG/NX or similar CAD platforms.
  • Experience supporting or leading root cause analyses.
Special Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Person eligible to handle export-controlled materials.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support a global engineering team.
  • Experience interpreting GD&T and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using PLM/Teamcenter or similar configuration management tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical and technical modeling skills.
  • Proficiency in classic ANSYS for thermal and structural analysis.
  • Skilled in mechanical design principles and modeling of turbine components.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting technical data and collaborating across teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational abilities.
Additional Desired Characteristics
  • Master of Science in Engineering.
  • Experience in fracture mechanics or advanced lifing analysis.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and thermal behavior issues.
Work Environment
  • Based in a regional engineering and technology facility supporting global energy equipment programs.
  • Standard schedule Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (EST), with flexibility required for international collaboration.
  • Work involves collaboration with global engineering teams, occasional remote coordination, and handling export-controlled data.
