Position summary: The Healthcare Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of healthcare construction projects, ensuring that projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires expertise in healthcare facilities including infection control protocols, life safety systems, and renovations in occupied spaces. The Superintendent will manage subcontractors, coordinate with facility staff, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.

Position responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day field operations of healthcare construction projects, including hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, including Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) and related precautions during construction in occupied healthcare facilities
- Implement and monitor life safety plans, including fire protection systems, egress routes, and emergency protocols
- Plan and execute renovations in occupied spaces, coordinating with facility management to minimize disruption to patient care and staff operations.
- Collaborate with project management, subcontractors, and owners to maintain schedules, budgets, and quality standards
- Conduct regular safety inspections and enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, OSHA standards, and hospital safety policies
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment installation, and logistics in a complex healthcare environment
- Maintain accurate daily reports, progress documentation, and as-built drawings
- Mentor and manage field staff, promoting high performance, teamwork, and adherence to quality standards
- Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure work meets design intent and regulatory requirements
- Serve as the point of contact for facility staff, coordinating work to minimize interference with patient care and critical hospital functions
Schedule & Coordination
- Creates and maintains project schedule; monitors critical path dates
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the construction operation, including creating daily job reports and maintaining adequate photo documentation
- Maintains orderly deliveries of equipment and materials onto the project site
- Understands all contractors’ scopes and coordinates work between trades
- Assists with contractor disputes, quality control, and schedule coordination. Verifies work progress and participates in schedule and cost forecasting
- Ensures that execution of work aligns with project specification and governing standards
- Maintains open communication between all contractors to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc. meet the project schedule and that products and methods used meet or exceed the quality standards in the project specifications
- Leads subcontractor meetings and participates in owner/architect meetings
Safety
- Monitors contractor compliance with project safety program requirements and enforces a strong safety culture on the jobsite
- Ensures all safety documentation is understood and complete by all tradespeople and personnel onsite
- Secures job site at all times; on call 24/7 as needed for emergencies
Cost
- Recognizes and works to resolve onsite challenges and issues for a timely resolution with minimum cost impact
- Participates in the negotiation of claims and changes and assists the Project Manager with change order reviews
Quality
- Creates RFI’s; reviews shop drawings; assists in processing submittals
- Maintains a LEAN mentality; understands LEAN concepts or seeks education in LEAN initiatives; executes LEAN initiatives where applicable
- Performs project close-out and ensures punchlist is completed in a timely manner
- When directed, supervises activities not related to the assigned project.
- Communicates site problems, as well as schedule and quality issues, effectively to the Project Manager and (as needed) Director of Field Operations
