Position Overview
The Director of Finance will serve as the senior financial leader for a respected Baltimore-based nonprofit organization. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, driving process improvements, and ensuring best-in-class financial reporting and compliance.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategic oversight with operational execution, ideal for someone excited to modernize systems, strengthen controls, and elevate financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, audit preparation, and compliance
- Manage and develop accounting staff; ensure appropriate balance between transactional execution and strategic finance
- Evaluate and enhance financial systems and processes, including automation and integration initiatives to reduce manual work and improve accuracy
- Partner closely with executive leadership and the Board on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy
- Serve as primary liaison to external auditors and the Board’s Finance Committee
- Provide financial insight and operational support across functions, including HR and facilities as needed
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 3 years of financial leadership experience within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Strong expertise in nonprofit accounting systems
- Proven ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and implement system enhancements
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with leadership, board members, and external partners
