ACCOUNTING CONSULTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support core operational accounting activities including management of SG&A-related general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Partner closely with accounting leadership to help maintain an efficient close process and reliable financial reporting cadence.
- Develop an understanding of operational expense drivers, including research and development support functions, and apply a disciplined approach to expense analysis.
- Assist in building process continuity across accounting functions through cross-training and documentation of key accounting procedures.
- Support purchasing and vendor payment workflows, including coordination with procurement stakeholders and participation in systems enhancements.
- Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to maintain general ledger accuracy and support management reporting needs.
- Assist with internal control documentation and provide support for audit readiness, including walkthroughs, testing coordination, and documentation updates.
- Contribute to recurring management reporting and ad hoc financial analysis requested by finance leadership.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and support implementation of practical improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Provide guidance and review support to junior accounting team members to help maintain quality and consistency across deliverables.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including finance, operations, procurement, and systems teams on accounting-related initiatives and operational improvements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required; CPA certification preferred.
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience within operational accounting, financial reporting, or controllership functions.
- Strong experience supporting general ledger accounting and month-end close activities.
- Experience working in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated environments is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with cost structures common to innovation-driven organizations, including operating expense and research support activities.
- Experience working with ERP systems; familiarity with cloud-based financial platforms such as NetSuite is a plus.
- Understanding of internal controls, audit support processes, and compliance documentation.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to review operating expenses and identify trends or anomalies.
- Ability to initially contribute in a hands-on capacity while gradually transitioning into a review and mentorship role within the accounting team.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working across finance, operational, and systems teams.
- Ability to step into an interim consulting engagement and begin contributing quickly with minimal ramp time.
Pay: $80.00 - $110.00 per hour
