The Business Services Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to school district administrators and business offices, assisting with budgeting, financial planning, school finance, operational analysis, compliance reporting, and business office operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to positively impact multiple school districts while helping ensure sound financial stewardship and operational effectiveness.

Essential Responsibilities
Financial & School Business Consulting
- Assist school districts with annual budget development, revisions, and long-range financial planning.
- Provide guidance regarding revenue limits, tax levy development, fund balance management, and fiscal forecasting.
- Support districts with audit preparation, financial analysis, cash flow management, and internal controls.
- Assist with DPI financial reporting requirements and compliance activities.
- Conduct financial reviews, program sustainability analyses, and operational assessments.
Business Office Support
- Provide onsite and virtual support to school district business offices.
- Assist districts experiencing vacancies, transitions, or temporary staffing needs.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of new business managers and finance staff.
- Provide guidance related to grants, categorical aid programs, purchasing, and financial operations.
- Assist with Medicaid and third-party reimbursement programs when applicable.
Leadership & Professional Learning
- Coordinate meetings, training opportunities, and resource sharing among member districts.
- Support professional learning and training related to school finance and business operations.
Agency Support
- Assist the Director of Finance with agency financial initiatives and projects.
- Provide backup support for business office functions as needed.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the Business Services Division.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, School Business Management, or a related field.
- Experience in school business management, accounting, auditing, finance, or governmental financial operations.
- Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and organizational fiscal management.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to travel throughout the CESA 11 region.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in School Business Management or related field.
- Wisconsin DPI School Business Administrator License (08) or eligibility for licensure.
- Experience working in or supporting Wisconsin public school districts.
- Knowledge of Wisconsin school finance, WUFAR accounting, revenue limits, and DPI reporting requirements.
- Experience with grant accounting, federal programs, or Medicaid billing.
