Packaging Lab TechnicianLocation: Sunnyvale, CA & Santa Clara, CAPosition Type: Full-TimeSalary: $58,000 – $100,000/yr DOEAbout the RoleWe are seeking a detail-oriented Packaging Lab Technician to support daily operations in a fast-paced Packaging Innovation and Testing Lab environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and keeping a lab running efficiently and accurately.This position supports two lab locations in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, CA, with Sunnyvale serving as the primary worksite. You will operate specialized equipment, assist with package testing, and manage sample workflow to support engineering and customer projects. The role works closely with local engineers and may also support overseas teams with sampling and testing needs.Key ResponsibilitiesSample Fabrication & ProductionOperate and maintain CNC digital cutting tables (e.g., Zünd/Zcutter and Kongsberg) to produce packaging samples, prototypes, and test components.Prepare materials according to drawings, specifications, and test requirements.Create packing and shipping plans for completed samples.Perform additional fabrication or lab support tasks as needed.Package Testing & EvaluationAssist with physical package testing including drop, vibration, environmental, burst, and edge crush testing following ASTM and ISTA standards.Set up tests, prepare samples, and operate testing equipment.Accurately record measurements, test results, and observations.Complete test reports and documentation using customer-specific templates.General Lab ManagementManage sample production and workflow to support customer projects.Organize and track materials, tools, and sample inventory.Coordinate testing schedules with the engineering team.Maintain equipment functionality, cleanliness, and organization.Manage shipping and receiving of samples.Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe lab environment.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred.Experience operating digital cutting tables, CNC-type equipment, package testing equipment, or working in a packaging or production lab is a strong plus.Familiarity with packaging materials such as corrugated, paperboard, rigid box materials, films, plastics, foams, and related substrates.Ability to read dimensional drawings and technical specifications.Comfortable using measuring tools (calipers, rulers, scales) and following SOPs.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Basic computer skills required (Excel, data entry, file management); experience with 2D CAD such as AutoCAD or ArtiosCAD is preferred.Ability to work independently and troubleshoot issues when needed.What We OfferExposure to innovative packaging technologies and customer projectsA hands-on, collaborative, and supportive team environmentA clean, modern lab settingCompetitive pay and benefits
