Job Title: Traffic Control Technician
Summary:
Control movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be able to work 7 days a week and stand 10 hours per day.
- Discuss traffic routing plans, type and location of control points with supervisor.
- Observe and assist in installing the traffic control plan.
- Designate flaggers to release traffic at beginning of operation on either closed lane or open lane ends.
- Complete safe turns in designated location at end of traffic control zones.
- Observe traffic control devices to ensure in accordance with backup of traffic control que.
- Communicates with cutting crew to hold traffic and restart again based on 20-minute time limit and operations of cutting crew.
- Be familiar with the installation of a Temporary Lane Closure.
- Be familiar with the different section of a Temporary Lane Closure and the purpose of each section.
- Be familiar with Traffic Control Devices in reference to Distance and Position.
- Be familiar with Safe Positioning of Flagger Stations in reference to Traffic Control for a Temporary Lane Closure.
- Be familiar with the required Advance Warning Signs and their purpose.
- Be familiar with the order of installation, direction of installation and the direction of removal, for Advance Warning Signs/Devices.
- Know the required Hand Signals in alerting the Traveling Public in a Temporary Lane Closure.
- Have knowledge of a Safe Stopping Distance of a designated roadway for a Temporary Lane Closure.
- Know when to use a Stop/Slow Paddle vs a Flag for Traffic Control.
- A Certified PCD in Oregon shall maintain an ODOT Flagger Certification renewable every 3 Years, for current status.
- Observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
- Daily attendance.
- Follow all policies and procedures and meet all performance goals.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Must pass background check
- Able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to observe and communicate traffic control situations.
- After being hired, must be able to pass a Flagging test that is administered by Ceres to continue employment.
- Must be able to stand up to 10 hours per day, 7 days a week.
Desired Qualifications:
- ODOT Traffic Control Flagger Certification preferred but not required.
- Willing to work overtime and in all types of weather conditions
- Dependable and able to commit to long hours of work when necessary
- Courteous to traveling public through the traffic control points
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee must be able to stand 10 hours per day, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; possibly high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
