A reputable and growing construction firm based in Providence is seeking a Project Accountant to support financial operations across multiple commercial and multifamily projects. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring fiscal accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting for field and project management teams.
Position Overview
The Project Accountant will manage day-to-day project financials, ensure proper cost control, and support project teams with timely billing, reporting, and contract compliance. This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and experience within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Maintain all project financial records, including job cost tracking, contract values, change orders, and committed costs.
- Review and code invoices, purchase orders, subcontractor payments, and vendor statements.
- Monitor project budgets and provide variance analysis to Project Managers and senior leadership.
- Prepare and update project cost reports, WIP schedules, and forecasting documents.
Billing & Reporting
- Prepare monthly AIA billings, lien waivers, and supporting documentation.
- Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding billings.
- Assist with subcontractor payment applications and verify completeness of required documents (COIs, waivers, compliance forms).
- Produce monthly and quarterly financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure adherence to contract terms, insurance requirements, and company policies.
- Assist with audits, financial reviews, and year-end reporting.
- Support the implementation of financial controls and best practices across project teams.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2–5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry (GC, subcontractor, or developer).
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, billing practices, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint Vista, Procore Financials, CMiC, Spectrum).
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Salary : $80,000 - $85,000
