Centurion Planning & Design is seeking a geospatial professional to help grow our mapping and geospatial planning capabilities. This position may be shaped as either an early-career GIS/Geospatial Planning Analyst role or a more experienced Senior GIS Lead role, depending on the candidate’s background, experience, and skill level. This role would be based out of our Grapevine, Texas office.


This person will work closely with Centurion’s planning, engineering and survey teams on airport, transportation, utility, and infrastructure projects. The role will involve preparing maps and exhibits, organizing spatial data, supporting planning studies, managing geodatabases, and translating complex project information into clear visual and technical deliverables.

For an early-career candidate, this position will provide experience in multiple project types and opportunities to grow within Centurion’s planning and GIS department. For an early-career candidate, this position offers the opportunity to build a strong GIS foundation through exposure to a variety of project types, data sources, and workflows, while making significant contributions to support planning deliverables using geospatial tools. For a senior candidate, this position will include technical leadership, new workflow development, mentoring, and helping establish GIS standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities


The GIS/Geospatial Planning Analyst will:


  • Prepare maps, figures, exhibits, and graphics for planning reports, proposals, presentations, and client deliverables.
  • Build, organize, clean, and maintain GIS datasets, geodatabases, and attribute tables
  • Coordinate GIS data with CAD, survey, aerial imagery, LiDAR, and other project sources.
  • Create professional map layouts and planning exhibits using ArcGIS Pro and related tools.
  • Assist with utility basemaps, asset inventories, existing conditions mapping, project phasing exhibits, and project experience maps.
  • Support web-based GIS tools, dashboards, field data collection, and interactive mapping where appropriate.
  • Improve GIS file organization, data quality, metadata, and documentation practices.
  • Work with project managers and technical staff to develop practical GIS deliverables that support client decision-making.
  • Contribute to the growth of Centurion’s internal GIS capabilities, standards, and workflows.


For a more experienced candidate under the title of Senior GIS Lead, additional responsibilities may include:


  • Lead GIS strategy and execution on complex planning and infrastructure projects.
  • Establish geospatial data standards, templates, QA/QC procedures, and repeatable workflows.
  • Mentor junior staff and help train team members in GIS tools and best practices.
  • Scope GIS tasks, estimate level of effort, manage GIS budgets, and coordinate deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Centurion’s use of GIS, dashboards, web maps, automation, and data visualization tools
  • Serve as a technical resource for planners, engineers, surveyors, and project managers.


Desired Qualifications


Centurion will consider candidates at multiple experience levels.


For analyst-level candidates:


  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, planning, civil engineering, environmental science, aviation planning, data analytics, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of professional GIS experience.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or other common GIS platforms
  • Familiarity with geodatabases, map projections, coordinate systems, and map layouts.
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in maintaining organized, accurate data.
  • Ability to create clear, professional maps or exhibits.
  • Willingness to learn airport, transportation, utility, and infrastructure planning concepts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with project team and clients.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps for data collection. 


For senior-level candidates:


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in GIS, geography, planning, civil engineering, environmental science, aviation planning, data analytics, or a related field.
  • 6 years of professional GIS experience, preferably in planning, engineering or surveying
  • Advanced experience with ArcGIS Pro and the Esri platform.
  • Strong understanding of geodatabases, spatial analysis, cartography, coordinate systems, metadata, and GIS data management.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Experience Builder, or other web GIS applications.
  • Ability to integrate GIS with CAD, survey, LiDAR, aerial imagery, tabular data, and client-provided datasets.
  • Experience developing GIS standards, workflows, templates, or QA/QC procedures.
  • Ability to mentor staff and communicate technical GIS concepts to non-GIS audiences.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Civil 3D, Illustrator, Affinity, SketchUp, Blender, QGIS, 3D rendering software, or open-source geospatial tools is a plus.


Preferred Experience


Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful but not required for all candidates:


  • Airport planning, airport layout plans, airfield infrastructure, or aviation-related project experience
  • Work related to the FAA's AGIS program and 18B-compliant airport surveys
  • Lidar and point cloud processing and data management
  • Utility mapping, asset inventories, pavement mapping, or infrastructure data management.
  • Planning, surveying, or engineering projects, especially in a consultant role.
  • Field data collection workflows.
  • 3D visualization, dashboards, web maps, or interactive mapping tools.
  • CAD/GIS coordination and translation

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys using spatial data to solve real project problems. They should be detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to turn technical information into clear maps, graphics, and reports.


For an early-career candidate, we are looking for someone curious, coachable, and eager to grow into a stronger GIS and planning professional. This person should be comfortable receiving direction, revising work, and developing repeatable workflows.


For a senior candidate, we are looking for someone who can provide GIS leadership, improve workflows, mentor others, and communicate GIS concepts internally and with our clients. This candidate will have a significant role in helping Centurion build a stronger geospatial practice. This person should be comfortable serving as a technical GIS resource while collaborating with the broader planning, engineering, and design team.
