Primary Purpose
The Instructional Assistant will serve as an Instructional and Lab Assistant; and assist the primary course instructor in the education of students using state-approved criteria to teach, select, and conduct hands-on learning experiences appropriate for meeting objectives for the classroom. Under the direction of and providing support to faculty by preparing classroom materials, facilitating student communication, and observing student performance and testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare classroom environments virtually and in-person for instruction by assembling necessary resources
  • Assist faculty with demonstrations, observation, and evaluation of student essential skills performance
  • Maintain records of activities undertaken in the classroom which may include typing forms, inputting data, or otherwise retaining information regarding students and their progress in meeting instructional goals
  • Reinforce knowledge and skills introduced by the course faculty
  • Assist with student communication
  • Support department faculty with copying class materials, stapling, and hole-punching; sort papers and/or supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbents must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, and read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Candidate must hold a current OHA one of the Traditoinal Health Worker certificates (e.g. Community Health Worker or Peer Support Specialist Certification)
  • Three years of professional or volunteer experience as a Community Health Worker and/or Peer Support Specialist.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Continuing education or courses in a related field.
  • Prior work experience of approximately 5 years as a Community Health Educator
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
  • Resides locally in Central Oregon Area or has a connection to this region.
