Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a health-related field required. Minimum of five years of recent professional experience as a sonographer. Must hold active credentials through ARDMS , including Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer ( RDCS ), Adult Echo (AE), and Registered Vascular Technologist ( RVT ).
  • Demonstrated clinical and/or didactic teaching experience with in-depth knowledge of sonography subject matter, including adult echocardiography, vascular sonography, pediatric echocardiography, and electrophysiology ( EKG ). Experience in curriculum development, student supervision, instruction, evaluation, and assessment required..
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to maintaining current knowledge and competency in the field of sonography, along with strong written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, supervisors, and staff is essential.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to community service, student success, and the use of instructional technologies and online learning management systems. Personal and educational philosophy must align with the mission, goals, and objectives of Central Ohio Technical College. Successful completion of a background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, sonography, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education, community college, or allied health programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of instructional formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments, with demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment preferred.
  • Additional professional certifications related to cardiovascular, vascular, or diagnostic medical sonography preferred, including RDMS .
  • Experience with accreditation standards, program assessment, curriculum design, and clinical partnership coordination preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using instructional technologies, simulation equipment, and online learning management systems in classroom, laboratory, or hybrid learning environments preferred.
  • Experience mentoring students in clinical settings and supporting diverse student populations highly desirable.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and continuing education activities related to diagnostic medical sonography preferred.

Summary of Duties:

Instruction and Student Learning

Deliver high-quality instruction that aligns with course objectives, program outcomes, and institutional standards. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assignments, laboratory activities, and assessments that support student learning and academic success. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including active learning and instructional technologies, to enhance student engagement and accommodate different learning needs. Provide timely and constructive feedback to promote student growth and achievement. Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, performance, grades, and assessments in accordance with college policies and accreditation standards.

Student Engagement and Academic Support

Foster a supportive and professional learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and academic achievement. Serve as an academic resource for students by providing guidance related to coursework, study strategies, clinical expectations, and academic progress. Encourage student engagement through discussion, collaboration, hands-on learning experiences, and real-world application of sonography concepts and techniques. Maintain availability for student support through office hours, electronic communication, and other approved methods.

Promote a classroom and clinical environment grounded in professionalism, mutual respect, ethical conduct, and accountability. Model professional behavior in all interactions with students, colleagues, clinical partners, and staff. Uphold academic integrity and institutional standards while addressing student concerns in a fair, respectful, and professional manner. Contribute positively to the college community and support initiatives that enhance student learning and program effectiveness.

Faculty Responsibilities

Faculty responsibilities are defined in accordance with the “Agreement Between Central Ohio Technical College and the United Faculty/Central Ohio Technical College, AFT / OFT .” Teaching assignments may vary by instructional delivery method and location throughout the college’s service area.

The full-time faculty member is responsible for:

  • Teaching and facilitating didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses within the Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs;
  • Conducting clinical site visits, providing instruction, and evaluating student performance in clinical settings;
  • Delivering instruction that supports student learning, retention, and academic success; and
  • Teach a variety of sonography courses at the undergraduate level.

Faculty are expected to utilize active learning methods and a variety of instructional approaches to support achievement of course and program learning outcomes.

This position also provides support to the program director and clinical coordinator to promote positive student, clinical, and program outcomes.
