What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Teacher (6-8) position at Central Office?
Position Summary:
We are seeking passionate, student-centered Middle Grade Teachers who are
committed to equity, high expectations and holistic development. Teachers at
GALS Ohio (Columbus Campus) foster academic rigor while incorporating
movement-based learning, social-emotional development, and leadership skills into

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, culturally responsive instruction aligned with Ohio Learning Standards and GALS’ academic framework.
- Incorporate GALS’ core values voice, agency, resilience and leadership into daily classroom culture and instruction.
- Integrate movement and wellness practices into classroom practice to support the mind-body connection.
- Use data to drive instruction, adjust lesson plans and provide differentiated support to ensure student growth.
- Build strong relationships with students, families and colleagues, fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive school community.
- Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to plan interdisciplinary units and project-based learning.
- Participate in advisory, movement classes and community-building activities as part of GALS’ whole-child approach.
- Attend and contribute to professional development staff meetings and school-wide events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or content-related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Valid Ohio teaching license and eligibility for licensure in subject areas Grades 6–8.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to educational equity.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and trauma-informed practices.
- Enthusiastic about movement, wellness and nontraditional approaches to learning.
- Excellent communication, organization and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in urban and/or public charter school environments.
- Familiarity with restorative practices, culturally responsive pedagogy and/or SEL frameworks.
- Comfort with integrating physical and mental health well being into daily instruction (training provided).
