Job Title:               INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA CENTER TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY:  Provides high quality professional instructional materials and services for Lewistown

School District #1.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned

 

  • Fulfill District copying, printing, layout and design needs as the sole Instructional Media Center (IMC) staff member, requiring the use of text, graphic arts, color design and reproduction; understands that any such designs are the property of Lewistown School District #1.
  • Produce District instructional materials in a timely manner by means of computerized graphic design of student materials, handbooks, posters, signs, certificates, forms, event programs, testing information, school lunch menus, etc.; print materials by using production copy machine, color copiers, and other printers; finish materials using electronic and manual paper cutters, laminator, folder, binders, and related equipment; otherwise prepare and distribute materials.
  • Troubleshoot IMC equipment issues; arrange for maintenance and repair, as needed.
  • Collect and organize all calendar events to be put in the sponsored school wall calendar; collaborate and communicate with sponsor and printing company, including securing bid, incorporating sponsor content, setting and meeting deadlines, layout and design of calendar pages, proofreading, delivery of print-ready files to the printer, and distribution of finished product.
  • Compile roster information for District and visiting high school football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and softball teams; design and print programs for home athletic competitions, including tournaments.
  • Provide support to District administrators, including producing or ordering ID badges for all staff;
  • Identify potential efficiency improvements or instructional resource needs; design and implement new practices and materials as feasible to meet those needs. Collaborate with teachers to create customized instructional materials, as requested.
  • Assist with District marketing and branding efforts, including District and school logo development, website and social media posting, newspaper advertisement design, creation of marketing materials, QR code creation and use, and other related tasks as needed.
  • Maintain online archive of all print project files. Keep accurate, complete, up-to-date records of all jobs, including implementation and management of both online and print systems for submitting IMC job requests. Develop and maintain written IMC operating procedures.
  • Collect monthly copy count readings from all copiers in the School District; maintain files for all copier usage; submit copy counts through online reporting system as required by business holding maintenance agreement. Update user IDs on all district copiers.
  • Provide printing and finishing services to community partners. Invoice external customers for services as necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies; order as needed and use effectively.
  • Create and maintain a neat and orderly workspace, including storage of paper products and printed materials, records and equipment.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with staff, supervisors, students and public.
  • Must be organized and able to work independently with the ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred; experience in the use of computers for word processing, layout and design; be proficient in the operation of various software applications such as Word, Excel, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Google Apps, Infinite Campus and website platforms such as SchoolPointe/FinalSite; have layout, design and marketing experience; be a proficient proofreader and typist; and have a working knowledge of print shop equipment such as production copy machines, printers, laminator, folder, cutters, and binders, plus others. Must be adept at troubleshooting equipment issues.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to District employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

TECHNOLOGY SKILLSThe work environment for instructors has increasingly become technology driven.  School District #1 expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology, in and out of the classroom.  Must have excellent computer skills and be adaptable to the use of other various software.

 

REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems in a timely manner.  Ability to understand the overall scope of the work to be performed and master the details of individual tasks; understand basic rules and regulations involved with work to be performed; and follow basic rules and regulations involved with the scope of work to be performed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACEScreening tests for alcohol and illegal drug use may be required before hiring and during your employment in Lewistown School District #1.  Employees of Lewistown School District #1 must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check and pass a physical.  Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
