CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

CLASS TITLE: Chief Academic Officer
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Personnel assigned by Superintendent
BASIC FUNCTION:
Develops, oversees, and manages the day-to-day operations in the areas of elementary, middle and secondary education. Works with superintendent to assist principals in coordination of curriculum and instructional practices within and among the schools in the district.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
The terms of employment are designated by the contract.
- Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance;
- Provide leadership in all district programs relating to curriculum and instruction;
- Assist principals and teachers in articulating instructional practices within and among schools;
- Actively monitor instruction through walkthroughs, unit/lesson plans, and benchmark assessments;
- Supervise and coordinate staff in providing support for learning among students and staff;
- Actively monitor student achievement through many sources and ensure that data-based decisions are being made. Sources shall include, but are not limited to: Benchmark assessments given three times per year, quarterly grading period data, classroom data, and state assessment data;
- Provide support towards completion of CDIP and CSIP;
- Support school administrators in ensuring that professional learning committees are functioning effectively based on PLC best practices;
- Coordinate and facilitate the selection and purchase of instructional materials in the district;
- Facilitate planning processes within schools and across the district;
- Manage committees that influence decisions in curriculum and instruction;
- Support school administration in ensuring a completed curriculum based on the model curriculum framework;
- Carry out projects that assigned by the superintendent to enhance the over-all operation of the district;
- Demonstrate effective administrative skills, communication skills, organizational skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
- Demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility through networking with other districts and organizations and participating in professional growth activities;
- Demonstrate positive, professional relationships with district personnel, parents and community;
- Assume the role of District Assessment Coordinator;
- Assume the role of Professional Development Coordinator;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent;

EVALUATION:
Annual development of Professional Growth Plan. Evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with district evaluation plan.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Kentucky Instructional Supervisor Certification;
- Five (5) years successful teaching experience preferred.
