JOB SUMMARY: The driver's education coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of the district’s Driver’s Education program, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. Ensures compliance with Minnesota Department of Public Safety and Driver and Vehicle Services requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, communication, organization, and customer service. Collaborates with Community Services staff, Transportation, instructors, and families to ensure effective program delivery that meets district and community needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
35% Program Development, Implementation, and Leadership
A. Determine program and community needs to develop, implement, coordinate, monitor, evaluate, and
revise Driver’s Education programming.
B. Establish and communicate rules, procedures, and expectations for students and instructors.
C. Develop classroom schedules in collaboration with instructors and arrange for guest speakers.
D. Arrange and coordinate “Point of Impact” and other supplemental safety events.
E. Maintain and update the online Driver’s Education class page.
F. Order classroom materials from the Minnesota Department of Vehicle Services and other vendors.
G. Hold and maintain eCard Certificate of Completion registration and password information.
H. Attend driver training conferences, workshops, and professional meetings or designate a
representative.
I. Send annual appreciation communications to regular program speakers.
25% Staff Support, Supervision, and Collaboration
A. Meet annually with instructors prior to the summer season to review expectations, procedures, and
updates.
B. Communicate regularly with instructors regarding schedules, program updates, and operational
information.
C. Provide instructors with classroom materials and copies as needed.
D. Participate in interviews for new instructional staff.
E. Collaborate with the Community Education Director regarding discipline issues, budgeting, staffing,
and troubleshooting concerns.
F. Encourage a positive and professional program culture that values safety, teamwork, and respect.
25% Transportation, Vehicle Coordination, and Compliance
A. Coordinate with the Transportation Department to ensure behind-the-wheel vehicles are safe,
serviced, and ready for instruction.
B. Work with the Transportation Office Assistant and bus garage to maintain gas and mileage logs and
records.
C. Establish and monitor best practices for keeping vehicles clean and washed, particularly during
summer months.
D. Ensure mirrors, brakes, magnets, and other required safety equipment are maintained and operational.
E. Ensure insurance cards are current and replaced annually by expiration date (June 30).
F. Establish parking standards and communicate vehicle locations to instructors.
G. Coordinate vehicle reservations with the Community Education Office Assistant and communicate
car assignments with instructors and Transportation.
H. Maintain awareness of and compliance with Minnesota driver education laws, rules, and reporting
requirements.
15% Family, Community, and Administrative Support
A. Field parent questions and concerns, providing timely and professional communication.
B. Assist in maintaining program waiting lists.
C. Collaborate with the Community Education Marketing Specialist regarding advertising and
promotional needs.
D. Work with the Community Education Office Assistant on scheduling, rosters, attendance sheets,
certificates of completion, reports, requisitions, purchase orders, and annual reporting.
E. Support preparation of annual program reports in collaboration with Community Services staff.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested including attending professional development/meetings,
in-services and workshops
WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Education/Certification/Licensure:
? Bachelor’s Degree with Minnesota licensure including an endorsement as a driver’s education instructor
? Valid Minnesota driver’s license
Experience:
? Experience in driver education instruction
? Experience in program coordination, scheduling, or educational leadership preferred

? Utilizes various software applications and online registration systems
? Uses Gmail to receive district communication
? Works with vehicle logs, scheduling systems, and state reporting systems
Supervision of Other Employees:
? Position provides coordination and oversight of Driver’s Education instructors; works collaboratively
with Transportation and Community Education staff.
Physical Job Requirements:
