Purpose: The Finished Packaging role is responsible for performing various tasks involved in the finishing production and packaging of products in an efficient, effective, and timely fashion. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment to ensure the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and safety are maintained throughout. The role requires a combination of quality assurance, packaging, equipment operation, inventory management, and communication.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Quality assurance: Identify and rectify bad seams on pouches, jars, cans, and other packaging forms; ensure the proper marking of finished case lots, storage locations, and other relevant information; know the companys coding systems including Date Codes, SKUs, and others. Report any issues or discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Packaging: Package processed fish and seafood products efficiently and in accordance with labeling and packaging guidelines.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate packaging equipment, L-bar sealer/shrink wrap tunnel, can labeling machine, and jar label dispenser. Perform routine maintenance and report any malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
- Inventory Management: Coordinate the palletization of wholesale products directly from finish production. Monitor and maintain brite-stock inventory, finished stock inventory, label, and case lot inventory, including all finish production materials.
- Communication: Maintain regular and efficient communication with the cannery manager and shipping department to ensure production meets order requirements.
- Documentation: Generate and maintain accurate production logs, pallet logs, and other packaging records.
- Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and tools to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure personal safety and the safety of team members.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members to meet production goals and ensure efficient processing. Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy items, stand for extended periods, and work in a cold environment.

Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):

- One (1) experience in fish processing or a related field is advantageous but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.

- The majority of work is performed in a cannery setting requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 70 lbs.
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
- Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
- Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
