Role: Additional Learning Support Advisor

Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking an Additional Learning Support (ALS) Advisor to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As an ALS Advisor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • SEND Support Planning & Review – Develop, share and regularly review Individual Support Plans with curriculum teams, ensuring strategies are effectively implemented and responsive to student needs.
  • Student Mentoring & Independence – Provide mentoring and guidance to learners with SEND, building confidence, independence and engagement through tailored support.
  • Staff Guidance & Inclusive Practice – Advise and support staff on SEND needs and inclusive strategies, promoting consistent best practice across teaching and learning.
  • Monitoring, Quality & Collaboration – Carry out classroom observations, maintain strong professional relationships, and use evidence to inform continuous improvement of support provision.
  • Representation, Compliance & Development – Represent the College at events, provide guidance on ALS services, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and ongoing professional development requirements.

About You

  • Qualifications & Professional Readiness – Level 2 English and maths, with a relevant Level 3 qualification (or willingness to work towards), supported by strong commitment to SEND practice and development.
  • SEND, FE & Legislative Knowledge – Good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, post‑16 education pathways, safeguarding, equality, diversity and confidentiality within an FE or related setting.
  • Learner Support & Communication – Experienced in one‑to‑one support with young people with SEND, producing professional reports and support plans, and communicating effectively with students, staff, parents and external agencies.
  • Organisation, IT & Teamwork – Excellent organisational, time‑management and IT skills, able to prioritise workload, work under pressure, collaborate with curriculum teams and contribute positively within a diverse team.
  • Professionalism, Safeguarding & Flexibility – Positive and adaptable approach, committed to safeguarding and maintaining professional boundaries, willing to travel and work across all college sites with access to own transport.
