What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-Med Clinical Medical Assistant position at Central Arkansas Vein Center?
About the Role
Central Arkansas Vein Center is a small specialty medical practice in Little Rock seeking a motivated pre-med student or recent college graduate planning to attend medical school who wants meaningful, hands-on clinical experience before beginning medical school.
This position is designed for someone pursuing a career as a physician who wants exposure to real-world patient care, clinical decision-making, medical procedures, documentation, and the day-to-day operation of a physician practice.
Previous medical assisting experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person. What matters most to us is intelligence, reliability, attention to detail, professionalism, curiosity, and a genuine desire to learn.
Because we are a small practice, our team works closely together. This is not a role where you simply complete a list of assigned tasks and go home. Everyone contributes to keeping the clinic running smoothly, whether that means assisting with a procedure, helping a patient, answering a phone, preparing a room, or yes — occasionally washing the coffee cups.
What You'll Do
As a Clinical Medical Assistant, you will work directly with our physician and clinical team and gain experience in multiple aspects of outpatient specialty medicine.
Responsibilities include:
- Rooming patients and obtaining accurate vital signs
- Gathering and documenting medical histories, symptoms, medications, and other clinical information
- Assisting the physician with office-based procedures
- Preparing procedure rooms, instruments, supplies, and patients
- Learning proper sterile and clinical techniques
- Assisting with patient education and post-procedure instructions
- Documenting accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Helping coordinate patient care, referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up
- Communicating professionally with patients, pharmacies, insurance companies, and other healthcare providers
- Supporting front-office operations when needed, including scheduling and telephone communication
- Helping maintain organized, efficient clinical and administrative systems
- Learning how a specialty medical practice functions from both the clinical and operational sides
- Contributing wherever needed to provide excellent patient care and keep the clinic running smoothly
Who We're Looking For
This position is specifically intended for individuals who are currently pursuing a pre-medical course of study or who have completed college and intend to apply to or attend medical school.
The ideal candidate is:
- Actively pursuing admission to medical school
- Interested in gaining substantial clinical experience before medical school
- Academically strong and intellectually curious
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable interacting directly with patients
- Professional, compassionate, and mature
- Able to accept feedback and learn quickly
- Willing to take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do
- Able to anticipate the needs of the physician, patients, and clinical team
- Positive, optimistic, and team-oriented
- Comfortable working in a small practice where everyone helps wherever needed
Healthcare or medical assisting experience is preferred but not required. We are happy to teach clinical skills to an exceptional candidate who is eager to learn.
Why This Is a Great Pre-Med Opportunity
This is much more than a traditional entry-level office job. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a physician and gain firsthand exposure to:
- Direct patient care
- Patient interviewing and clinical histories
- Physical findings and diagnostic evaluation
- Outpatient medical procedures
- Ultrasound-based vascular medicine
- Chronic venous disease and vascular anatomy
- Medical terminology and documentation
- Physician-patient communication
- Clinical workflow and continuity of care
- The realities of operating an independent medical practice
For a future medical student, this position provides an opportunity to develop the clinical confidence, communication skills, professionalism, and understanding of patient care that cannot be learned solely in a classroom.
What We Offer
- $16-18/hour
- Full-time or part-time opportunities
- Extensive hands-on clinical experience
- Direct exposure to a practicing physician and specialty medical care
- Training provided for the right candidate
- Experience that can help prepare you for medical school and a future career in medicine
- A supportive, close-knit team environment
- The opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your skills develop
We understand that this position may be a stepping stone on your path to medical school — and we consider that a good thing. We want someone who is ambitious, wants to learn as much as possible while they are here, and will make a meaningful contribution to our patients and our team.
