Job Summary:

Installs, protects, and maintains gas services and mains. Operates and maintains several types of construction equipment to accomplish installation, maintenance and protection of the gas distribution system.

Essential Functions:

• Performs various tasks associated with installation of gas mains and services to prepare and restore the construction site including maintenance, replacement, corrosion control and leak detection on mains and services in compliance with company standards and procedures, to safely and efficiently deliver natural gas to customers.
• Operate construction equipment used in the repair, replacement, and installation of gas mains and services, including the preparation and restoration of the construction site for completion of assigned projects.
• Performs routine operator maintenance on construction equipment to assure safe and efficient performance and minimal downtime.
• Drives crew truck and other trucks, some with trailer attached, to transport construction equipment and necessary crew materials to job locations.
• Assist with other related tasks as apparent or assigned including meter hanging and customer piping tie-in when appropriate to ensure efficient operation of the crew.
  
  
  

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

• Requires successful completion of a certification program at an accredited educational institution in natural/propane gas distribution, installation and repair, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent technical skills.
• Experience in one or more of the following:
• Requires one year’s experience in the installation and or repair of gas services and mains.
• 3 years operating experience of various excavation equipment e.g., trencher, tractor, backhoe.
  
  
  

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements

• Able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver objects.
• Able to distinguish the differences between all colors.
• Able to walk, bend, stoop and climb on a daily basis.
• Able to operate motor vehicle including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.
• Able to use a variety of hand tools and power tools including shovel, pipe wrenches, jackhammer, backhoe
  
  
  

Working Conditions:

• Able to wear personal protective equipment, such as air respirator, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, protective footwear and ear plugs.
• Able to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
• Able to have access to personal vehicle to drive to worksite.
• Able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and respond to call outs for work assignments at all hours.
• Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.

Compensation Rate: 33.74 Hourly

CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the starting fixed pay rate at the time of posting for the opportunity. This hourly compensation is specific to Minnesota and the pay rate negotiated in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
