Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable, professional, energetic, and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing healthcare team.
Our Medical Assistants work in a fast-paced Primary Care and Urgent Care environment and must be comfortable caring for both pediatric and adult patients.
POSITION
Position: Medical Assistant
Employment: Full-Time / Part-Time / PRN
Schedule: Flexible scheduling required
Weekends: Must be available to work rotating weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
Location: Fredericksburg
Pay: Based on experience and qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Medical Assistant will assist providers and other clinical staff with efficient and safe patient care. Responsibilities include:
- Greet and appropriately identify patients.
- Obtain and document vital signs.
- Obtain accurate patient histories and chief complaints.
- Review and update medications and allergies.
- Prepare patients and examination rooms for providers.
- Perform point-of-care testing as ordered.
- Perform COVID-19, influenza, strep, urinalysis, pregnancy, glucose, and other approved testing.
- Perform EKGs.
- Assist with nebulizer treatments.
- Administer medications and injections when properly trained, authorized, and ordered.
- Assist with vaccines and immunizations.
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection when qualified.
- Properly label and process laboratory specimens.
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
- Clean and disinfect examination rooms between patients.
- Follow infection-control and OSHA requirements.
- Properly handle sharps and regulated medical waste.
- Maintain clinical supplies and examination rooms.
- Monitor medication and supply expiration dates.
- Document procedures, medications, testing, and other clinical services accurately in the EMR.
- Assist with referrals, medication requests, patient messages, and other clinical tasks as assigned.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, pharmacies, laboratories, and other healthcare facilities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Cross-train and assist the front office when needed.
- Perform additional duties within the employee's training and assigned responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have:
- Medical Assistant training or relevant clinical experience.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask in a busy medical environment.
- Basic computer and EMR skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with patients and coworkers.
- Dependability and good attendance.
- Ability to follow written policies and clinical protocols.
- Willingness to learn and accept training and feedback.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Urgent Care or Primary Care experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
