Job Summary: Hospice Chaplains are specially trained healthcare workers who attend to the spiritual needs of a vast variety of individuals whose only similarity may be their terminal illness. A hospice chaplain must be familiar with a wide range of religious and spiritual expressions.
Essential Functions:
Assist patient, caregiver/family with spiritual care related to death and dying
Visits patient and completes an initial spiritual assessment & routine visit notes
Collaborates care with interdisciplinary group and provides spiritual input into plan of care
Acts as liaison between the patient/family and local clergy
Networks with community resources and represents Frontier Hospice in the community
Seeks hospice support from clergy of various denominations
Participates in staff development and in-service programs
Assists the Bereavement coordinator with direct after care visitations and memorial service
Qualifications:
Regulatory Requirements:
● Must be a graduate of an accredited school of theology and have training in grief and bereavement counseling
● Minimum of 1 year experience in pastoral care
● Previous experience in grief and bereavement counseling preferred
● Excellent in both written and oral communication skills, including spelling and grammar
● Good interpersonal skills
● Ability to handle stressful and delicate situations with tact, diplomacy and attention to their importance
● Must represent CenterCare Hospice in a positive and professional manner
● Current Colorado Driver's License
● Must have reliable transportation available during work hours. Vehicle must be properly registered and insured in accordance with state law
Language Skills:
● Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
● Additional languages preferred
Skills:
● Understands regulations/standards applicable to hospice.
● Basic Computer Skills
Physical Demands:
● Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and patient needs.
● Requires excellent listening skills and a basic understanding of the many different spiritual and religious perspectives especially as they pertain to death and dying.
Salary : $20 - $30
