Job Title: Night Assistant Team Leader, Intensive Services Unit 

Job Summary:  

CASES is currently seeking a Night Assistant Team Leader to join a new initiative, the Intensive Services Unit (ISU) within the Pretrial Services Department. In their role, the Night Assistant Team Leader will provide direct supervision and clinical support to four (4) staff members during the night shift in Manhattan Criminal Court. The oversight will be of a unique team who are building and maintaining a caseload from the courtroom to the community nightly. The Night Assistant Team Leader will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the team with the additional support of the Director of Arraignments.  

The Intensive Services Unit (ISU) initiative will implement innovative approaches to working with individuals who have been placed in the Supervised Release Program and experience more extensive needs and challenges that may impact daily functioning and overall program engagement. The ideal candidate for this position will work well as part of a coordinated clinical team actively assisting all team members. The focus group of program participants manage challenges in mental health, substance use, employment, and medical health. The team promotes proactive, sustained engagement in the community as a catalyst to individual transformation by bridging participants to community partners and resources eager to support our participants in realizing their greatest potential. 

 

Salary: The salary for the Night Assistant Team Leader role is $77,000 - $79,000 per year. 

Shift Hours: This position is full-time working Saturday-Wednesday from 5pm to 1am.  

Location Address: 100 Centre Street, New York, NY 10003

Workplace Flexibility: Flexible, after 90 days can finish shift from home 1x per week (10am-1am). 


What you will be doing:  

  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight of a team of four (4) and growing.
  • Support the overall clinical and administrative operations of the community supervision, case management, peer support, health, and rehabilitation services.
  • Be flexible and innovative in the first of its kind position at CASES, where you will oversee staff who will work in the courtroom and the community. 
  • Provide support to staff who will be in the community from 5pm-9pm. 
  • Manage a specialized caseload of program participants who present with significant behavioral health needs, co-morbid conditions and/or complex presentations requiring collaboration with various partner providers.
  • Provide recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and gender-responsive services.
  • Assess participant’s; immediate needs, legal circumstances, substance use, mental health, trauma, psychosocial, vocational, educational, and housing needs to complete assessments and develop service plans.
  • Assistant Team Leader will conduct in-person field-based services in the community with team members to support staff in their work with participants with elevated risks and needs, when needed.  
  • Provide transitional support for clients to their home, shelters, treatment programs and/or other services to ensure and secure connection to programming.
  • Work regular schedule and adhere to schedule changes to ensure SRP consistently maintains coverage for all court shifts; perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors and senior staff.
  • Assist clients with linkages to and systems navigation within the behavioral health, human services, and criminal justice systems as appropriate Conduct outreach to families and significant others to gather collateral information for service planning.
  • Use evidence-based counseling approaches to develop a rapport with participants and develop insight into specified need areas.
  • Take leadership in management of high risk and complex care cases, including conducting direct work in the community and with other members of the team as needed to manage risk.
  • Complete assessments, progress notes and program data reporting as required by program funders.
  • Develop and maintain excellent professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other court partners to facilitate program admissions and maintain CASES 'credibility in the Manhattan Criminal and Supreme Courts.
  • Help ensure we maintain a safe working environment by reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions, e.g., liquid spill in hallway, to the appropriate facilities staff member or supervisor. 

 

What we are looking for:  

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or similar fields preferred or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with 3-4 years Supervisory experience.
  • At least three years of experience working in human services with individuals with serious mental illness and those with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. As well as working in the field.
  • Experience understanding various evidence-based models and theories pertaining to psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, serious mental illness and recovery.
  • Experience understanding family systems based on diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
