Position Summary
The Behavior Technician will support students with behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs by implementing behavior intervention plans, collecting data, modeling appropriate behaviors, and collaborating with teachers and support staff to create a positive, structured learning environment. The role is essential in ensuring that all students can access the curriculum and meet academic and social-emotional goals, aligning with Center City PCS’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement individualized behavior plans (e.g., Behavior Intervention Plans, Positive Behavior Supports) under the guidance of a licensed behavior analyst or special education teacher.
- Monitor, record, and analyze data on student behavior: frequency, duration, antecedents, and consequences. Use data to guide interventions and report to relevant staff.
- Support de-escalation of behavioral crises using approved practices, ensuring the safety and dignity of the student.
- Model, teach, and reinforce prosocial behaviors, such as conflict resolution, self-regulation, following routines, and making smooth transitions.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a structured and supportive classroom/learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers, special education teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and parents/families to align behavioral supports across various settings.
- Provide direct, one-on-one or small-group support as needed.
- Attend meetings IEP meetings, team meetings) to provide input on behavior data, student progress, and recommendations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development in behavior strategies, trauma-informed care, restorative practices, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (IDEA, D.C. regulations), as well as the school’s policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in psychology, education, special education, or related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in educational, clinical, or therapeutic settings.
- Basic understanding of behavior management strategies.
- Strong observational, data-collection, and communication skills.
- Ability to interact with students with diverse needs, including behavioral, emotional, and learning differences.
- Patience, empathy, consistency, and resilience.
- Must be able to work under supervision and follow guidance of behavior plans and protocols.
