Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Electronics Quality Assurance Inspector to support precision manufacturing within our Aviation & Aerospace Component Manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for the inspection, verification, and documentation of electronic assemblies, subassemblies, and components to ensure full compliance with aerospace, defense, and customer quality requirements.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in inspecting complex circuit card assemblies (CCAs), printed circuit boards (PCBs), cable and wiring harnesses, and electro-mechanical assemblies, applying industry standards such as IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS9100, and AS9102. This position plays a critical role in ensuring mission-critical product reliability, regulatory compliance, and workmanship excellence across aerospace and defense systems.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Verification
- Perform detailed visual, mechanical, and dimensional inspections of electronic assemblies, PCBs, cables, connectors, and subassemblies to ensure conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability.
- Inspect solder joints, component placement, polarity, lead trimming, labeling, and workmanship in compliance with IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
- Inspect wiring harnesses and cable assemblies in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements.
- Execute receiving, in-process, and final inspections of electronic and electro-mechanical products to verify compliance with aerospace quality standards.
- Inspect conformal coating, staking, bonding, and encapsulation processes to ensure proper application, coverage, and cure integrity.
Documentation & Quality Control
- Accurately record inspection results, test data, and traceability information within the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Identify, document, and report nonconformances (NCRs); support root cause analysis and verification of corrective and preventive actions.
- Review Certificates of Conformance (CoC), supplier documentation, and incoming inspection records to ensure full material and process traceability.
- Support internal and external audits, including AS9100, ISO 9001, customer, and regulatory audits, as required.
Technical & Process Support
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications.
- Utilize inspection and verification equipment including microscopes, magnification tools, calipers, pin gauges, multimeters, continuity testers, and other electrical/mechanical inspection tools.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve inspection discrepancies and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide actionable feedback to manufacturing teams related to workmanship, rework requirements, and process or design improvements.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure strict adherence to ESD controls, FOD prevention, and electrostatic-sensitive material handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant inspection workspace consistent with aerospace and defense manufacturing standards.
- Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety, quality, and ethical policies at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience as an Electronics Quality Inspector or Quality Inspector within the Aerospace, Defense, or High-Reliability Electronics Manufacturing industry.
- Hands-on experience inspecting PCBAs, CCAs, cable/harness assemblies, and electro-mechanical units to IPC and AS9100 standards.
- Proven experience performing and documenting First Article Inspections (AS9102).
Technical Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
- Solid understanding of AS9100/AS9102 quality system requirements and ISO 9001 processes.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring and electrical verification tools, including digital multimeters, continuity testers, calipers, and microscopes.
- Experience using inspection and quality software systems such as Net-Inspect, Solumina, SAP, TipQA, or equivalent QMS platforms.
- Excellent documentation, reporting, and data entry skills.
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Technical certificate, associate degree, or military electronics background preferred.
- IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certifications required or strongly preferred.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent certification is a plus.
