About the Role:
The Head Start Teacher Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of young children in a classroom setting. This position involves collaborating with the lead teacher to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that promotes learning and growth. The Teacher Assistant will help implement lesson plans, engage with children in various activities, and ensure that each child's individual needs are met. Additionally, this role includes maintaining a safe and organized classroom, as well as communicating effectively with parents and guardians about their child's progress. Ultimately, the Head Start Teacher Assistant contributes to laying a strong foundation for children's future educational success.
Preferred Requirements: listed in order of preference
- Associate's degree, baccalaureate, or advanced degree including at least 6 college courses early childhood education* and/or child development* and 6 college credit hours in business management*.
- Progress toward pursuit of college degree in early childhood education or child development, and Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent credential.
- CDA or equivalent credential.
- Eligible to possess CDA credential.
One or more years of experience teaching, or assistant teaching 3 or 4-year-old children in a licensed child care center.
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED);
At least six months’ experience teaching, or assistant teaching 3 or 4-year-old children in a licensed child care center.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lesson plans and activities.
- Support children in their learning by providing one-on-one assistance and facilitating group activities.
- Monitor and document children's progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children's development and classroom activities.
