Technical Writer – Utility Programs Location: 100% Remote (U.S.) work from home eligibleEmployment Type: Full-Time, ExemptDepartment: Utility ServicesReports To: Program or Quality Management LeadershipSalary Range: $29/hour - $37/hour Position Summary The Technical Writer – Utility Programs supports the development, maintenance, and governance of technical and procedural documentation for regulated utility programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring program documentation is accurate, consistent, auditable, and aligned with client standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality systems. The Technical Writer works closely with program managers, engineers, GIS specialists, and quality teams to translate complex technical and operational information into clear, structured documentation that supports day-to-day execution, compliance, and continuous improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Documentation & Content DevelopmentDevelop, edit, and maintain procedures, work instructions, job aids, and administrative controlsTranslate technical, operational, and regulatory requirements into clear, user-friendly documentationEnsure documentation is written in a consistent style and format and is easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiencesDocument Control & Quality SupportSupport document control processes, including versioning, approvals, change tracking, and archivalEnsure documentation aligns with client governance, regulatory expectations, and internal quality management systemsUpdate documentation in response to audits, corrective actions, process changes, or continuous improvement initiativesCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with engineers, GIS specialists, program managers, and subject matter experts to gather technical inputsParticipate in document reviews to validate accuracy, completeness, and usabilitySupport quality management, compliance, and program governance efforts through clear and well-structured documentationContinuous ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve documentation clarity, usability, and consistencyIncorporate lessons learned and best practices into updated or new documentationSupport standardization of templates, formats, and documentation approaches across programs Required QualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)Experience4–7 years of professional technical writing experienceExperience developing documentation for regulated, technical, or operational environmentsSkills & CompetenciesStrong written communication, editing, and proofreading skillsAbility to quickly understand complex technical concepts and processesExperience working with document management systems and version controlStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple documentation tasks and deadlinesPreferred ExperienceExperience supporting utility, infrastructure, engineering, or compliance-driven programsFamiliarity with quality management systems, audit support, or regulatory documentation The salary range for this position is provided in good faith and is subject to variation based on geographic location, candidate experience, and market conditions.
