Responsible for directing and maneuvering railcars safely within industrial railyard. Ensures efficient rail movements, loading/unloading coordination, and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Operate switches and signals to control railcar movements
- Operate locomotive
- Couple/uncouple railcars manually or with tools
- Perform billing of railcars before shipment via SAP
- Communicate with switching team, loading team and, logistics team.
- Inspect railcars and tracks for defects or hazards
- Perform routine maintenance on locomotives.
- Perform weekly, monthly safety checklists and equipment inspections
- Direct train positioning via hand signals or radio
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Perform switching within federal guidelines
- Outdoor environments in all weather
- Evening schedule and weekends as needed.
- High-risk, fast-paced setting requiring vigilance
- Regular use of gloves, ankle high steel-toe boots, helmets, and safety vests
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of rail operations and FRA safety standards
- Physical fitness for outdoor, hands-on work
- Detail-oriented with strong situational awareness
- Clear communication and ability to follow instructions
- Decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with PPE and working near heavy equipment
