Maintenance Assistant - Part Time

Cedarcrest is seeking a dependable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to help keep our facility safe, welcoming, and running smoothly for the children, staff, and families who count on us every day. As part of our Facilities team, the Maintenance Assistant maintains the physical plant and equipment of Cedarcrest as directed by the Facilities Manager. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and is comfortable tackling everything from preventative maintenance and minor repairs to groundskeeping and vehicle upkeep.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Responsible for general preventative maintenance of the facility and equipment.

• Completes daily inspection of the building and grounds for safety and maintenance needs using established weekly checklist and completing follow-up procedures as necessary.

• Completes scheduled preventative maintenance programs.

• Performs daily and preventative maintenance tasks for facility’s mechanical and electrical systems and identified equipment as directed or assigned by Facilities Manager.

• Completes monthly fire extinguisher & emergency light inspections using established checklist and completing follow-up procedures as necessary.

• Assists therapy staff with wheelchair and positioning equipment maintenance on mutually agreed upon schedule.

• Assists in maintaining computer documentation of preventative maintenance and other work as assigned.

• Develops and/or maintains a working knowledge of the mechanics of the facility including but not limited to electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilating and air conditioning controls.

• Completes weekly generator testing.

• Completes the monthly oil tank inspection.

• Assists in monitoring HVAC computer system.

2. Completes repairs as needed.

• Responds immediately and appropriately to safety concerns, completing necessary follow-up procedures and notifications.

• Reviews maintenance request forms: completes any work, repairs or maintenance as needed; contacts appropriate vendor to schedule maintenance or repair when needed.

• Completes minor repairs and building projects to the interior and exterior of the facility.

• Completes minor painting projects as assigned.

• Repairs, modifies and maintains special equipment as requested by Nursing, Therapy or Education Departments and/or Facilities Manager. On occasion may be asked to fabricate special equipment.

• Maintains and repairs residents’ equipment as assigned or requested.

• Serves as back up to the Facilities Manager when he/she is unavailable.

• Provides coverage for emergencies on evenings and weekends as available.

3. Oversees vehicle maintenance.

• Checks all vehicles daily using established checklist and refuels and follows up on any concerns as necessary.

• Maintains motor vehicles per checklist and schedules necessary shop maintenance.

• Cleans vehicles on a rotating schedule.

4. Maintains the grounds.

• Performs outdoor maintenance of lawns, gardens and the exterior of the facility as required.

• Performs outdoor winter maintenance, including plowing, sanding/salting and ice/snow removal including nights and weekends.

5. Promotes safety of the organization.

• Implements fire drills and other related “Life safety programs” as directed by the Facilities Manager.

• Maintains a positive and safe environment by assuring the work area is tidy and free of hazards at all times.

• Participates in safety committee and assists with safety inspections.

6. Assists with deliveries and errands.

• Completes business related errands as assigned by Facilities Manager.

• Assists in processing deliveries as necessary.

• Must have at least four years experience in facilities maintenance or related experience

• Must have general mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting and carpentry skills.

• Must be able to plow snow, mow lawns and operate a variety of hand tools.

• Must have a valid drivers license and a clear driving record. Computer literacy preferred.
