What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Based Therapist position at Cedar Ridge Behavioral Health Solutions?
School-Based Therapist – St. Clairsville City Schools
Cedar Ridge Behavioral Health Solutions is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and highly organized licensed therapist to join our team providing school-based behavioral health services within St. Clairsville City Schools.
This is a unique opportunity for a therapist who enjoys working with children and adolescents and wants to make an impact where students spend much of their day. Our school-based therapists become an important part of the school community, building relationships with students, families, school personnel, and other professionals to help students overcome barriers and succeed both emotionally and academically.
This is an incredibly rewarding position, but it is also a busy one. We are looking for someone who can step into a fast-paced school environment, manage a full caseload, stay on top of documentation, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their schedule and responsibilities.
The right person for this role is someone who is flexible, dependable, confident, and comfortable working independently while still being part of a supportive behavioral health team.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing individual and group behavioral health services to students within the school setting
- Completing assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required clinical documentation accurately and on time
- Managing a consistent caseload while maintaining productivity expectations
- Building strong working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel
- Collaborating with school staff while maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries and confidentiality
- Identifying student needs and responding appropriately when concerns or crises arise
- Coordinating with families and other providers when additional support is needed
- Managing your schedule effectively and making the most of the school day
- Being proactive when students are absent, schedules change, or other barriers arise
- Participating in supervision, team communication, and ongoing professional development
Who We Are Looking For
We need someone who genuinely enjoys working with kids, but compassion alone is not enough for this position.
The ideal candidate is someone who can connect with students while also being structured, accountable, and productive. School schedules change. Students are absent. Teachers have competing demands. Parents may be difficult to reach. Some days will not go according to plan.
We need a therapist who can adapt, problem-solve, and keep moving.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Build rapport easily with children and adolescents
- Are comfortable walking into a school and becoming part of the culture
- Communicate professionally and confidently with school personnel and families
- Can manage multiple priorities without needing constant direction
- Understand that timely documentation is part of providing quality clinical care
- Are comfortable being held accountable for productivity and performance expectations
- Are willing to ask questions, accept feedback, and continue learning
- Take initiative rather than waiting for someone else to solve a problem
- Can be compassionate with students while maintaining healthy professional boundaries
- Are dependable and understand that consistency matters to the students we serve
Why School-Based Therapy?
School-based behavioral health gives therapists an opportunity to reach students who may otherwise never access mental health services. You have the opportunity to see students grow, help families navigate difficult situations, collaborate with educators, and become a trusted resource within the school community.
At Cedar Ridge, you will also have the support of an established behavioral health organization behind you. While you will need to be comfortable working independently within the school, you are not expected to do the job alone.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold an appropriate Ohio behavioral health license, such as an LPC, LPCC, LSW, or LISW.
Experience working with children, adolescents, families, or within a school setting is strongly preferred.
This position is best suited for someone who wants meaningful work, enjoys a challenge, and takes pride in doing their job well.
If you are looking for a position where you can build relationships, make a real difference for students, and become an important part of a school community, we would love to hear from you.
