Healthcare Accountant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Healthcare Accountant to join our financial team. Duties

• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and industry-specific standards such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance
• Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy of accounts receivable and accounts payable records
• Oversee regulatory reporting requirements specific to healthcare entities and governmental agencies
• Perform financial analysis, cash flow forecasting, and budget variance analysis to support organizational planning
• Maintain detailed documentation of financial transactions, audit trails, and internal controls
• Utilize accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar platforms for efficient bookkeeping and financial management

Skills

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, technical accounting standards, and healthcare-specific regulations such as LIHTC and securities law
• Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or equivalent systems
• Experience with SOX compliance, regulatory reporting, and governmental accounting practices
• Expertise in financial report writing, interpretation of financial statements, and financial statement preparation
• Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles—debits & credits—and accrual accounting methods
• Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and account reconciliation efficiently
• Excellent analytical skills with a focus on financial concepts like budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and general ledger reconciliation
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members while fostering a collaborative team environment
• Knowledge of non-profit accounting practices related to healthcare organizations is a plus
• Familiarity with securities law and estate planning (wills & trusts) is advantageous but not required
